2010 End to End Hikes and Legacy Fund Raiser

Introduction

The end to end for 2010 is on Saturdays and Sundays for the dates listed below.

Come out, have fun, meet new friends and help us raise funds for the Peninsula Club’s commitment to the Bruce Trail Legacy Campaign. We will car pool to the start of each hike. Distances are as listed in the Bruce Trail Reference Guide, Edition 25 . There may be additional distances added to our hikes as we use access trails to our main trailheads. Distances listed below may change as new reroutes to our optimum routes are determined in 2010. Changes will be published.

Donations

Donations of $10.00 for each hike are requested to participate. For tax purposes, if you require a receipt, please provide your name and address to the Hike Director and the Bruce Trail Conservancy will provide a receipt.

Registration

Please register by contacting Hike Director, John Whitworth at 519-836-7673.

Limited Number

There is a limit of 20 hikers.

Accommodations

Accommodation can be found at B & B’s on the Bruce Peninsula or camping at designated camping and rest areas along the trail. Degree of Difficulty

All end-to-end hikes in this eries are designated as strenuous. Strenuous (definition ) A normal paced hiking speed. We do not race. The treadway could have some steep climbing both up and down, some scrambling, boulder beaches, and escarpment drop offs close to the trail. Usually longer hike days.

Special Notes for the Peninsula BTC End to End Hike Series

• The Peninsula BTC End to End hikes are moderately paced. We take time to enjoy the scenery, botany, and fabulous views of the Bruce Peninsula, including Georgian Bay.
• The duration of End to End Hikes is approximately 6 to 7 hours including breaks and a half hour lunch stop. One or two hikes could be longer. We start at 9:00 a.m., car pool, hike, car pool and usually finish between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Meet by 9:00 a.m. at Bruce Rd. 9, East on County Rd. 18 (Purple Valley Rd.) and continue straight as road becomes gravel = Wright’s Cres. to Purple Valley Side Trail parking area on right. Meet by 9:00 a.m. at Cape Croker Campground and Store parking. From Wiarton, Hwy. 6 to Bruce Rd. 9. Right on Sideroad 18. Left on Purple Valley Rd. Right on McIver Rd. and left on Campground Rd. Drive to Cape Croker Campground Store or from Lion’s Head south on Bruce Rd. 9 to Waugh’s Rd. and right on Purple Valley Rd., left on McIver Rd. then left on Campground Road. Map 36. Sunday, July 18, 2010 Hike 6 of 12 End to End Strenuous, 15.9 km

Meet by 9:00 a.m. at Cape Chin South parking: Forty Hills Rd., north of Lion’s Head, east on Cape Chin South Rd. to the ‘T’ Junction, turn left, drive to where you meet the water, and then right and drive to the end where there is parking at the park gate. Saturday, August 7, 2010 Hike 7 of 12 End to End Strenuous, 15.2 km

Meet by 9:00 a.m. at Britain Lake Rd. parking area: Hwy 6 to Dyer’s Bay Rd., to the ‘T’ junction, right on Bartley Dr., and at the dumpsters at the corner, continue straight onto the gravel Britain Lake Rd., to the parking area, approx. 5 min. drive along Britain Lake Rd. Sunday, August 8, 2010 Hike 8 End to End Strenuous, 15.3 km

Meet by 9:00 a.m. at Crane Lake Gate. Directions: Hwy. 6, east on Dyer’s Bay Rd., then left on Crane Lake Rd. (It is approximately a 10 – 15 minutye drive to navigate this winding country road to the gates at km 129.1). Map 40. Start: Britain Lake Rd. parking area, km 113.9. End: Crane Lake Gate, km 129.1. Saturday, August 28, 2010 Hike 9 of 12 End to End Strenuous , 14.1 km

Meet by 9:00 a.m. at Crane Lake Gate. Take Hwy. 6, east on Dyer’s Bay Rd., then left on Crane Lake Rd. (It is approximately 10 – 15 min. drive to navigate this winding country road to the gates at km 129.1). We are hiking this section from north to south. This is the safest and easiest way to cover this part of the trail. Map 41. Start: Halfway Dump Side Trail parking lot, km 143.2. End: Crane Lake Gate, km 129.1. The first 7 km are very rugged and the last 7 km are easy bush road walking.
